think I should bring this to NC?

Since NC BBQ has its own following, I think there might be a new trend that should be brought here.

BBQ spa treatments.

Yes, you read that correctly. A BBQ spa treatment. Offered by the Crescent Court Spa in Dallas, TX, it is a special order treatment for the BBQ enthusiast out there. You are slathered in BBQ sauce then wrapped in a heating blanket for the treatment. Then you are fed chicken that has been cooked in the leftover, hopefully not used, sauce. It is said to "exfoliate, stimulate circulation, and remove toxins from your body." And then you leave smeeling like a big piece of BBQ chicken.

Since NC sauces are more vinegar based, do you think there could be a following? Are there potential risks/benefits of the vinegar?

Or would those who have had the treatment just walk around with people following them with knives and forks and a bun waiting to dig in?

huh?

So I came across a news story today that is quite disturbing. The following post is not for the faint-hearted.

A lady in Texas has said that the devil made here kill her 3 1/2 week old baby. She decapitated her son and proceeded to eat some of the brains and mutilate other body parts before stabbing herself and slitting her throat. She survived and is being held on a $1M bond. She will be charged with capital murder. She will proabbly plead insanity at the time and get off with some jail time.

This story really shocks me. First of all, this lady is a whacko. Something has to be going on inside of her head. Drugs, mental illness, whatever. I know that something is wrong with her.

Now here is where my true shock/disgust with this story comes in. What if this had been 6 months and 3 1/2 weeks ago? She could have gotten an abortion. She could have willingly killed a child that was being develpoed in her womb. The doctor would have helped with the murder. It might have even been covered on insurance (I do not know where insurances stand on this. I am just speculating). She would have been able to go home afterwards and lead a somewhat normal life soon thereafter.

Now she is a murderer being held on $1M bond and will suffer the consequences of her actions. If this "scenario" would have happened 6 months and 3 1/2 weeks ago, she would be able to walk out of the doctor's office free and go home.

What is wrong with this picture?

good mooooooorrrrrrnnniiinnnngggg

1st of all, the new Harry Potter movie is great. Not exactly conducive to getting to work @ 8 AM if you go to be around 4 AM though. There was a crazy amout of people there. The theater manager said there were 1,200. I didn't count them all but there were a lot. Good movie with good flow of events that keeps you interested.

Needless to say, I am moving pretty slow @ work today. I just guzzled down my Java Monster so hopefully I can keep the "nodding head syndrome" at bay. For a little while at least.

If you read my blog and you do not read Stuff Christians Like, I am honored (I guess). There is a great post today that everyone should read. http://tinyurl.com/mwn8vl

Have a great day and if you see me nodding off, yell so I can wake back up.

Long weekend

Well folks, I am back. I had a wonderfully long weekend that I got to enjoy with my lovely wife. We headed off Thursday morning for Asheville, NC. On the way we stopped by Chimney Rock, NC. It is a great park to visit if you ever get the urge. We climbed to the top of the rock to take in the spectacular view. While we were there taking pictures and enjoying the breeze, a plane felw by. Under us! By the looks of it and my limited knowledge of airplanes, it looked like a C-130. Who knows. I will ask my father-in-law since he is more keen on these things. We hiked over to the waterfall and sat under it to relax. Once we took in the sights it was on to Asheville.

We arrived at our campground and got right to our tent site. That's right, we camped. 2 nights in the woods for us. Luckily, the campground had hot showers and private bathrooms. It was a really nice place to stay. We set up camp and then we cooked dinner on the fire pit. After that we cleaned up and just sat around the fire til about 10. Then we walked to the bathhouse and got ready for sleepytime.

Daybreak comes early when you sleep outdoors. I woke up around 6:30-7:00 and tried to keep quiet so Jessica could keep sleeping. We finally got up and had cornmeal pancakes, sausage links, and hot chocolate. Not bad for camping. My wife is getting good with a camp stove. We cleaned up then got ready to head down to Asheville. We had a great lunch with some of Jessica's friends and then we went downtown. Asheville has so many cool plces to shop and hang out. We had a really great time. Plus I had a Guinness cupcake!

After walking around downtown for a while, we decided to head back to camp. We went and got a pizza for dinner. Now I have had quite the number of misspellings of my last name, but Pizza Hut gets the prize. The cashier asked Jessica for our last name and she said "Thommarson". We waited for the pizza and it was ready in about 10 minutes. When we picked it up it read "Tomberson". A+ for that one.

We ate our pizza then sat around the camfire eating s'mores and talking. Then I decided it would be fun to burn my finger on my newawesometotallyrad lantern I got from my wife. It is fun to make sure you can still feel pain every once ina while (NOT!). We cleaned up and got ready for bed.

The next morning we hiked around the campground before we had to pack up and leave. I don't know if it is like this for everyone, but hiking sure feels like you are gone forever, but in reality it's only about 20 minutes. We packed up the car and headed home for Durham.

THe rest of the weekend we hung out with the Dysons (Saturday night) and went to church (summitRDU.com) and just relaxed. We did do some chores on Monday but they were needed. Oh, and Sunday was my birthday. I feel older.

I love long weekends!

Disappointment

So I went to McDonald's this morning. I can get a bacon-agg-cheese McGriddle and a large Coke (breakfast of champions right) for $3.62. Not a bad deal. I pull up and order and the cashier verifies my order back to me. I pull around and pay and then pull up to recieve my order. I grab the bag and Coke then proceed on my way to work. As I am driving down the road I reach into the bag and feel around for my deliciousness and my heart fell. I could tell there was something amiss. It's sad when you can tell by the texture of the wrapper that something is up. Much do my dismay, I recieved a bacon-egg-chesse BAGEL! Now I am a fan of bagels at certain times. But this morning was not one of them. I could have just turned around and gotten my correct order but I decided to just deal with it and continue on.

There are times in our life when we are disappointed in something. Usually no big deal, such as the case this morning, but sometimes they can have life altering effects (relationships, jobs, etc.) I took this time to think about how God sees me. With the sin in my life and the dumb things I do to step towards stupid, I feel like I am a disappointment to God. He created me to be a living example of His love for the world. He made the biggest sacrifice for us all in sending his Son to die for our sins. I cannot even sacrifice my own selfish needs sometimes so I can be a better example for Christ. That makes me feel like a disappointment.

Not so fast.

God sees me as His son. Through salvation in Christ, I am a son of God. My sins are covered and I am fully redeemed by Jesus' blood. This makes me NOT a disappointment to God. He loves me and cares for me every single day. And even though I still struggle in sin, He is always there for me.

And that makes a bacon-agg-cheese bagel just a little more tasty.
